For Bill...

I post this pic for my grandfather Bill, my Dad's dad, who is 88 years old and in the hospital.

In his younger days he drilled wells (which is why I work on them today in the family tradition...cuss and throw tools...) and he was a fireman for the Penn Railroad. (He stoked the fire to make steam; that's what a fireman did.) When the railroad went to diesel electrics (like the one on the right) he qualified to be an engineer.
If I'm not mistaken the engine on the left was the largest engine ever to run, built for the '38 or '39 World's Fair, but scrapped soon after. (It would break down every time it ran, I believe.) These were great machines.

Get well Grandpa. There's stories to tell of life on the rails, and tools to be tossed for no reason.
